As an archaeologist and writer I have lived and worked in over 20 countries. As a photographer I have had the opportunity to record events and architecture around the world; yet there is no where that I have yet discovered in my 80 years that offers the  wealth of historic buildings and archaeological wonders as the tiny Mediterranean Island of Malta. It is my sincere wish that this introduction to this fascinating island will encourage you to visit, if not to move to what I consider to be the jewel of the Mediterranean.” Dr. Shield was a photographer with Associated Press’s London office in the early 50’s covering the conflict between the then Maltese Government and the ruling British Government over the Maltese Dockyards. He joined the Cambridge University’s archaeological team excavating the Roman Catacombs. In the 60’s he became a well known broadcaster in Australia and has lived in over 20 countries around the world. In retirement he recently opened the Hall of Antiquities, in the Boulevard Mall in Las Vegas NV.; his home for the past 20 years.
