An interesting short novel by James revolving around parent-child conflict. Widowed Mrs. Gereth has filled her lodgings with fine art objects and furniture. However, her son Owen wants her to get rid of these prized possessions.The main narrator of the story is Fleda who despite being in love with Owen is compassionate towards Mrs. Gereth's torment over losing the valuable ownership. Engrossing!
