Description

This podcast is an introduction to Anglophone literature, from ancient times to the present, done by a Ph.D. with lots of books and musical instruments. A typical episode offers a summary of a work, or part of a work of literature, followed by some historical analysis. The episodes include original music, some comedy songs, and goofy jokes. You can listen to the shows in any order, although from time to time, episodes will make brief mention of previous or upcoming ones.

One of the best history podcasts around

This is highly enjoyable and highly informative. It is a thoughtful podcast, which typically proceeds by first giving an overview of a work of literature, and then diving in the details of its history, its meaning and any controversies surrounding it. But it certainly isn't as dry as that may sound, because the style is conversationaly, witty, and often irreverent. I've learnt a lot from it while being entertained at the same time.
The host indisputably has a pleasant and clear talking voice. When it comes to his singing talents, there is room for divided opinions! But these extras are good fun.

The Best Podcast on History and Literature

Excellent podcast! Good story-telling skills, deep research, fitting background music, goofy funny songs to end the episodes, and the best sound system ever. I can’t say enough good things about this podcast! Well done, Doug!
