Margate At One

Margate At One

Durée : 46:05
In October 2024, the Radiophonic Institute partnered with Margate Radio to deliver a live broadcast that brought the sounds of Margate into focus. Eight locations were chosen for their sonic footprint and importance to the town. They were all captured at the same time – at 1pm on a Friday afternoon. The recordings were played back simultaneously the following week with the public invited to mix their own soundscape. This was followed by an improvised performance by Moon Zero and Melinda Bronstein who remixed the original recordings. This podcast features excerpts from both versions of the piece, which will be preceded by an interview with Margate Radio’s Paul Camo and Tim Garratt.
Location sounds by Chris Cholmondeley, Jack Goldstein, Clementine Blue, Melinda Bronstein, Chase Coley, Tim Garratt, Paul Camo and Buddy Peace. Location images by Ilia Rogatchevski.

Description

The Radiophonic Broadcast examines innovations in sound and music. From field recordings and fictional journeys to Foley-inspired performances and music made by fungi, get to know the artists working at the vanguard of sound. This podcast gives equal balance to speech and music. Think of it as two sides of an LP or cassette: the first side contains conversations and interviews; the second – uninterrupted compositions made by or featuring our interviewees.
