In the ancient city of Kufa, when the busy markets fell silent and the lanterns were put out, a quiet mystery began. Every night, a gentle traveler walked through the dark streets carrying a heavy sack on his back. He moved softly through the alleys, leaving bread, dates, and water at the doors of families who had little to eat—then disappearing before anyone could see his face.
For years, the children of those homes believed they had a secret friend who cared for them.
But one day, when the city mourned the passing of their beloved leader, Imam Ali (AS), something unexpected happened. The bread stopped coming. The quiet footsteps never returned. And slowly, the people of Kufa discovered a beautiful truth: the leader who guided the city by day had been the one caring for the hungry by night.
This gentle story reminds us of a powerful lesson from the Qur’an: while charity is always good, giving quietly can be even more beautiful because it keeps our intentions sincere and focused on helping others.
